Imagine a place where the only sounds are turquoise waters lapping against white sand and palm fronds rustling in the soft sea breeze. Welcome to Aitutaki Lagoon Private Island Resort, the Cook Islands' only private island sanctuary—an adults-only retreat where relaxed luxury means beautiful nature, genuine island culture, and the increasingly rare gift of true seclusion.
Your journey begins with a two-minute private ferry crossing to Motu Akitua, where swaying palms frame traditional Polynesian architecture and the lagoon stretches endlessly in shades of blue so vivid, legend says the colour blue and all its hues was invented here. Thatched-roof bungalows—including the Cook Islands’ only Overwater accommodations—offer private decks, open-air showers, and majestic views where sunsets ignite the horizon in coral and gold.
This is your private island. Your endless lagoon. Your ultimate escape.
Every experience is curated for two: take a languid dip in the bluest of blue lagoons, surrender to spa rituals scented with coconut and frangipani, kayak to deserted motus for a champagne picnic, snorkel among colourful tropical fishes, or simply sway together in a hammock as the day melts away. Dining here celebrates the ocean's bounty and local flavours, served beneath a velvet sky alive with stars.
The resort is exclusively yours—no day visitors, no cruise ship crowds, just privileged access to one of Earth's last unspoiled paradises. Consistently ranked #1 on Aitutaki by Tripadvisor, this is where the world's most discerning travellers come not just to visit, but to be transformed.
Leave renewed. Leave restored. Leave forever connected to the soul-deep beauty of Aitutaki.

What we love about this stay
Book an overwater bungalow — specifically one facing west. The glass floor panels are mesmerizing, but it's the sunset from your private deck that will wreck you: the lagoon turns molten gold around five-thirty, and you're watching it alone, feet dangling above the reef. At dinner, ask for a table at the far edge of the restaurant, closest to the water — the interior tables lose the effect entirely. Don't over-schedule yourself with excursions; the one non-negotiable is a morning kayak to a sandbar at low tide, when the lagoon goes so shallow it's barely ankle-deep for hundreds of meters. Bring reef shoes and a mask — the coral gardens en route are the real show. Aitutaki rewards those who surrender to its tempo completely.

We went for our honeymoon and this hotel is in an absolutely privileged place. The staff was very attentive and nice especially Pati who picked us up at the airport and attended us on arrival and back and Luke at the restaurant. Very grateful

The staff , the facilities and the resort is first class. The location is superb, the island is straight out of a picture book. I think the staff are the best I’ve seen on our 30 odd overseas trips.

Stunning!, This resort is in a Stunning Location, the views are breathtaking, it is truly a paradise in every respect. From the moment you land in Aitutaki the atmosphere is one of peace and tranquility, a 5 min journey from the airfield and you are at the boat pick up point to take you to the island. The staff are waiting for you on arrival to escort you from the Airfield, (they get your luggage for you) transport you to the boat, and more staff are waiting for you on arrival to welcome you to the resort, Checking in was quick and easy, and you are driven to your room, where your luggage has already been placed for you. The views from the rooms are unreal, there are many photo's of this place, they are not photo-shopped, in fact the true colours are even more spectacular in real life. We had a Premium Beach front Bungalow, it was clean, tidy, super comfy bed, outdoor shower, and a view to die for. The room was cleaned daily and was kept neat and tidy by the staff, A big thank you to Nga for looking after our room so well and keeping it stocked with essantials. The Grounds and Beach are immaculate, plenty of loungers and hammocks, to while away the hours looking at views you never get bored of, each room has its own bikes, kayaks, paddle-boards and all the safety equipment to enable you to use safely, the water around the island is safe and mostly shallow, snorkelling is also available everything free of charge! There are numerous tours around the lagoon (its massive) these are paid for we went on a couple of them (reports done separately) but it really is a must, as the uninhabited motu's (islands) are fascinating. there is something to suit everyone on Aitutaki. The Resort can help, advise and arrange trips for you. In the Resort itself, there are numerous activities throughout the day if you wish, and "Island Night" and "Crab Racing" are held regularly - brilliant fun! The staff in this resort are just incredible, they know each clients name, food requirements etc, they are warm and beautiful people and really do everything they can to make your stay memorable! Roneel is the front desk manager, in the restaurant, Jerry, Rawinia, Mere, Teri, and Luke are just a few who made our stay incredible, there are so many others, please forgive if I did not mention you, all of the staff make it perfect. The food !!- to be in such a remote place it is a credit to the Chef and his Team to produce such well presented plates and all tasting fantastic. Breakfast is provided every morning, both hot and cold, with plenty of choices, and really good coffee, bread is freshly baked and you want for nothing, again the staff all go out of the way to ensure your every need, my wife is a Vegetarian - there was good options, and again the Chef went out of the way to ensure her dietary requirements were catered for as he did for all dietary requirements for all clients. just superb. Spa's - The resort has a spa with a good selection of treatments, my wife used it and said it was very good and very enjoyable. Fishing I went there to Fly-Fish, you can walk out of the resort onto the beach and into the flats, there are also guides available. The fishing was not great whilst I was there in October - we had strong trade winds blowing in, which made sight fishing difficult especially for Bonefishing, however it is a Fly fishing mecca! we intend to go back again but perhaps in a less windy month, I caught a couple of trevally and a few local species on the fly, but the Bones as always are spooky! however it was and is a fishing paradise, huge Bonefish and Giant Trevally live there and on the right day, fly and conditions it will be magical. The day we left the winds died down and a friend of mine caught a 17lb Bonefish, such is life! its called "Fishing not Catching" well done Tod!. there are also charters available for fishing off the reef, again - check time of year. We spent the whole time in Aitutaki, 10 nights, at the Lagoon Private Island Resort, it is where we would/will go back to - great location, great resort, great staff, and great food, great views. Whether you go to Aitutaki for 1 - 2 nights or like us 10 nights or longer, this resort is the best, the island and lagoon is stunning. To every member of staff we met and who looked after us, Thank you for one of the best holidays we have ever had, and if you will have us we would love to visit your beautiful resort and island again. regards Neil and Sal
