What we love about this stay
Don't skip the complimentary evening wine hour — it's not an afterthought. Local Mendocino and Anderson Valley pours paired with genuinely good appetizers by the lobby fireplace, and the crowd is small enough that the innkeepers actually talk with you. Request a room with ocean-facing windows on the upper level; waking up to fog burning off the bluff while your gas fireplace still hums is the whole point. Mornings, linger over the cooked-to-order breakfast — the berry pancakes with local fruit are absurdly good, and there's no rush. If you have one free afternoon, drive to Anderson Valley for tastings rather than staying coastal. And grab the deck at golden hour with whatever bottle you brought back. We visited brewery gulch inn for a post engagement celebration and had the most amazing time! We picked the Osprey room and were not disappointed. The room itself is comfortable with lots of space and the fireplace was nice to sit by on colder nights, but the large soaking tub took the cake. We also enjoyed the view from the balcony but it was a bit colder than usual during our stay - thankfully the plush robes helped with that a bit. Meals here were as good as everyone makes them seem, breakfast is huge with a great selection. The hardest part is choosing what to get when you want it all. And the dinner trays were very well done and good sized too! The wine hour was a nice surprise as well, great selections and all very good with bottles available for purchase. Last but certainly not least I have to give a huge shout out to the staff who helped make our little engagement getaway feel truly special. Everyone was so welcoming, friendly, helpful and accommodating. They give great recommendations for places to see and added small touches during our stay that really helped us feel at home. We'll definitely be back!

Wonderfully quiet, beautiful and cozy. To warm up next to the fireplace on a chilly evening during a game of chess. Even though we travel a lot, this is our all time favorite

This was a very nice place to stay- I'll say that freely at the outset. That said: I think I had too high of expectations. I had read the Travel and Leisure give #7 in California and I think Conde Naste(?) gave top 50 in the country. And again, it's a very nice place to stay, but I was never blown away. The kitchen was great in working with my wife who has celiac, to adjust the menu. In our mid 30's, we were a few decades below the average clientele.

Beautiful views and wonderful service but value is not quite there. I tried to give some constructive feedback but never heard back from the team. Our room was valued at over $600/night, so I had high expectations, but our room was basically not sound proofed at all. I could hear every single thing that happened with my upstairs neighbors - every cough, sneeze and trip to the bathroom. We splurged on this for our babymoon, and the noise was so disruptive when it's already so hard to get good sleep in the third trimester. The food was delicious (probably the best part) and we enjoyed the views but I don't think we can swing this price tag again knowing what we get in exchange. I also found the technology a bit lacking - TVs were old, DVDs were scratched and no streaming availability (all I wanted to do was Netflix and chill so this was a disappointment). I wish I had a better report, I really wanted to fall in love with this place!

Spent a couple of nights at BGI because the place was really hyped up by both guest reviews and Travel Awards. We left feeling underwhelmed, honestly. For starters, the food was below expectations. Dinner one night was two mini burgers. What? Hamburgers in a resort extolling the virtues of its cuisine??? Dinner the second night was a chicken dish. The chicken was so tough I can only imagine the chef was off that night and chicken prepared the day before was defrosted and served to unsuspecting guests. Really way below and average meal, no less a meal in a resort that hypes up its food quality. Two strikeouts. And the "millionaire's bacon?" Quite ordinary bacon. If you want to offer a "millionaire's bacon," try emulating the bacon appetizer at Peter Luger's Steakhouse in NYC. That's "millionaire's bacon!!!" Rooms were average. The front desk staff were great. Overall, a disappointment. Sorry.
