The Ned NoMad
The lobby announces itself before you've fully crossed the threshold. Soaring ceilings, deep green marble, and burnished brass recall the building's origins as the NoMad's Johnston Building, a 1903 Beaux-Arts landmark whose ornamental details have been painstakingly restored rather than reimagined. The Ned NoMad occupies all twelve floors of this architectural gem at the corner of 28th and Broadway, channeling the spirit of its London sibling into a distinctly New York proposition: a hotel, members' club, and collection of restaurants and bars woven into a single, layered experience.
The 167 rooms and suites are dressed in a palette that shifts between moody jewel tones and softer neutral registers, with period-sympathetic millwork, custom furniture, and brass hardware that echo the lobby's Gilded Age character without mimicking it. Bathrooms arrive clad in marble with Cowshed amenities, and many rooms look out over Broadway or the surrounding NoMad rooftops. The range extends from cozy doubles to expansive suites, but even the most compact rooms carry a sense of occasion, shaped by the building's generous ceiling heights and tall, light-filled windows.
Much of the energy at The Ned NoMad lives in its food and beverage spaces. Cecconi's, the beloved Italian restaurant, anchors the ground floor with handmade pastas, wood-fired dishes, and a sprawling bar scene that draws hotel guests and locals in near-equal measure. Upstairs, the rooftop offers one of midtown south's more compelling perches, with open-air dining, cocktails, and sweeping views across the Manhattan skyline. The Magic Hour Rooftop Bar and Lounge adds a playful counterpoint with its whimsical installations and festive atmosphere, while Little Ned serves as the property's all-day neighborhood café, pouring espresso and pastries at a pace calibrated to the sidewalk energy of Broadway below. For members, the club floors unlock additional lounges, workspaces, and private dining, adding a layer of exclusivity that runs quietly beneath the hotel's more public-facing energy.
The neighborhood itself is one of Manhattan's most storied pockets. NoMad, the stretch north of Madison Square Park, pulses with architectural beauty, independent retail, and some of the city's most respected restaurants. The Flatiron Building stands a few blocks south. The flower district blooms to the west. Penn Station and the energy of Herald Square press in from the north. It is a neighborhood defined by creative enterprise and a density of culture that rewards walking.
What lingers about The Ned NoMad is the way it refuses to choose between spectacle and substance. The building commands attention, the restaurants generate real gravity, and the rooms offer a retreat from both. You move between grand public floors and intimate private quarters with the feeling that the hotel has been designed not as a destination to arrive at, but as a rhythm to settle into.

There's a particular kind of calm that happens when a space takes design seriously enough to make each room feel like its own statement rather than a variation on a theme. Nomad Design House has that quality — bespoke furnishings, art-infused spaces, and a sense that someone with a genuine point of view made deliberate choices about what belongs here. It sits in that sweet NoMad stretch of Manhattan where the Empire State Building and Madison Square Garden are close enough to walk to, yet the property itself feels like a deliberate step sideways from the city's relentless pace. What lingers is the contrast: you're unmistakably in the middle of everything, but the rooms hold a stillness that makes the Manhattan skyline outside your window feel almost cinematic, like something you're watching rather than surviving.

This property was great. You feel like a real New Yorker staying here. Obviously you forgo the amentities like a gym or pool, but being a small stair case away from the street in Midtown is awesome. Right next to subway which will get you anywhere and you can always walk! Absolutely loved this!!

Property was central, clean and all that we needed. For New York I was surprised about the amount of space we had. Some things needed fixing like the kitchen faucet but that was minimal. We were a family of five and it was more than we needed and the staff was quick to answer my emails and contacted me when we arrived in New York.

We had a great stay! Traveled with two older sons and the suite was perfect! Two separate bedrooms was exactly what we needed...the unit was very clean and had everything we needed. The location was just fine....two subways within a block. We could have used a few more bath and wash towels, but Martin helped us by letting us grab a few from the unoccupied unit downstairs. Check in was so easy and Martin quickly responded to any questions we had. The building is safe and secure....we will definitely book here again!
